My out-of-office message for the holidays

"Sorry guys, I just spent the past hour drafting out-of-office (OOO) messages for all my clients," one of my friends blurted as he hopped online for our gaming session last night.

"Dude, why don’t you just use ChatGPT for that?" I asked, genuinely puzzled.

For most of my work emails, I let AI draft the first version before tweaking them a little and sending them out, saving me a ton of time

"Oh, uh, yeah, I’ve got templates from previous years," he replied.

"But here’s the thing..."

He paused as we waited for our game to load.

"When I sent those messages out, all my clients already had their OOO messages ready—and I got their auto-replies right away! 🤦🏻"

"Looks like they beat you to the holidays, man," we said, laughing.

And honestly, it really does feel like that this year:

Everyone’s rushing to set their OOO messages and really take their holidays. Long ones, too.

So, on the topic of OOO messages, here’s mine now that we’re in the final stretch of the holidays:

Nicholas Ng is very much in office for the rest of the year—and indefinitely after that.

Not because I’m a crazy hustler who can’t sit still without work to do

(Okay, maybe I am a little bit like that. 🤫)

But building Fit for Life and Work doesn’t feel like “going to the office” for me. What started as a fun experiment back in September has become something I really cannot miss and will do at the start of every day without fail.

And since it’s the holiday season, I’ve got a few slightly different plans lined up:

  • A big announcement coming closer to the New Year.
  • A variety of different-themed emails to keep things fresh for the rest of the year, starting tomorrow!

The best part? With everyone else OOO, your inbox will be mine to dominate muahahaha 😁

Until tomorrow then!

Today’s email is going out much later than I’d like - I usually prefer to send them before noon, but I’m at my parents’ place for Boxing Day dinner later, so I’m writing this at my desk in my old room. Better late than never, as they say. I’m getting close to 100 consecutive daily emails now, and if there’s one lesson this streak has taught me, it’s that starting late might not be perfect, but it’s still better than not starting at all. I’m also juggling a busy and heavy period with work and...

The other day, I got a call from yet another unknown number. I panicked for a moment thinking back to the time my old workplace called me while I was shopping for groceries. But I wasn’t that busy this time, so I picked up out of curiosity, An automated voice answered me: “Hello, I’m from JobStreet, and your resume has been approved…” 🤮 I hung up immediately, but I wish I had let it ramble on because it would have given me great email fodder to write more stories. Still, scams like these make...
